Regarding the Interval file (-L)

I have an interval file with overlapping records. If i merge those records and take minimum start and maximum end for running the GATK pipeline will it be okay ?
will it have a negative impact in variant calling ?
for eg;
chr1 156700 156754
chr1 156710 156900

Into

chr1 156700 156900
