Error installing GATK: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError

mufernandomufernando São PauloMember

Hi,

I was trying to install GATK but when I try to run:
java -jar GenomeAnalysisTK.jar -h

I get the following error:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: org/broadinstitute/gatk/engine/CommandLineGATK : Unsupported major.minor version 52.0
at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass1(Native Method)
at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass(ClassLoader.java:803)
at java.security.SecureClassLoader.defineClass(SecureClassLoader.java:142)
at java.net.URLClassLoader.defineClass(URLClassLoader.java:449)

at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:358)
at sun.launcher.LauncherHelper.checkAndLoadMain(LauncherHelper.java:482)

My java version is 1.7, and so I don't think this is the problem...:
java version "1.7.0_101"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.6.6) (7u101-2.6.6-0ubuntu0.12.04.1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.95-b01, mixed mode)

Oops sorry I found the problem. I think I use the java 1.8 but in fact did not...There's some problem in the installation

    I find out the solution:

First, you'll need to install Java 1.8. I followed the instructions provided here:
    http://tecadmin.net/install-oracle-java-8-jdk-8-ubuntu-via-ppa/

If you don't have the command add-apt-repository, follow these instructions:
    http://askubuntu.com/questions/593433/error-sudo-add-apt-repository-command-not-found

And done, now you'll be able to run GATK.
