Riverbanks zoo & Gardens Columbia, SC?

I'm thinking of having an Alice in Wonderland themed tea party birthday party for my little girl, but am having trouble finding an appropriate garden venue... I'm thinking about the gardens @ riverbanks.. but i'm not sure if there is a picnic area in/ or close to the garden area.. and if the zoo would let us have our birthday party there... also is it true they don't let you bring in your own cake/icecream or presents? & we have one guest in a wheelchair... would he be able to go to the botanical gardens? i'd love to be able to have it @ the art garden or old rose garden.
Any input would help! preferably from a park employee or someone that's had a party @ the zoo/garden.
