I'm getting an endless spinner / "Loading auth..." message when trying to access the web portal

Is this what you're getting when you try to access a page and/or sign in?

If so, something is preventing the system from verifying your account credentials. There are several possible causes, with different solutions. Here's what you can try (in no particular order):

  • Check whether you have an ad-blocker like Ghostery installed in your browser, and if so, tell it to trust all content on the portal.firecloud.org domain. Then reload the page.

  • Do a "hard refresh" of the browser window. In Chrome on a Mac, you can do that by pressing the command-shift-R keys simultaneously. This will clear the cache and reload all elements of the page.

  • Sign out of your Google account and sign back in. Sometimes if you use multiple Google accounts (e.g. one for work and one for personal email) there can be some weird crossovers that interfere with authentication.

If you're able to do so, use the Chrome dev tools (via the "Inspect" function in the menu that appears when you right-click on the page) and tell us whether there are any error messages reported in the console.

    It seems login is blocked/fails when third party cookie blocking is enabled in Chrome (recommended). You have to explicitly permit 3-rd party cookies from google/google apis .
